Architect Julia Morgan, whose work included the Hearst Castle, a 129-room mansion that took nearly 20 years to complete, was born on this day in San Francisco in 1872.
Today is Australia Day, celebrating the first British settlement in 1788 which began as a penal colony. Britain put 570 men and 160 women on seven ships and sent them to Australia.
