Itís the birthday of SAMUEL SMILES, the Scottish writer known for his self-help books, born in 1812 in Haddington, Scotland. He gave lectures to young working men in Leeds on how to succeed through hard work, and these lectures were published in book form with titles such as Self Help (1859), Character (1871), Thrift (1875), and Duty (1880). He wrote, "The spirit of self-help is the root of all genuine growth in the individual."
Itís the birthday of the founder of the Mormon Church, JOSEPH SMITH, born in 1805 in Sharon, Vermont.
Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.®
