It's the birthday of Christopher Robin Milne, the boy who inspired his father, A. A. Milne, to write the Winnie the Pooh series. He was born in London in 1920.

It was on this day in 1911 that Leonardo da Vinci's painting, the MONA LISA, was stolen from the Louvre in Paris by an Italian house painter.

William "Count" Basie ("One O'Clock Jump") was born today in Red Bank, New Jersey, in 1904.

American writer Roark Bradford (OL' MAN ADAMS AN' HIS CHILLUN) was born today in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, in 1896.

Illustrator Aubrey Beardsley was born in Brighton, England, 1872.
