Today is known as All-Hallomas, All Hallows or All Saints Day the Roman Catholic Holy Day commemorating the blessed.

The word "November" comes from the Latin word for ninth, since it was the ninth month of the Roman year.

During the month of November the Taurid meteor shower will peak on the second, although the moon will interfere, but the Leonids on the 17th will provide a better show. Mercury will be visible in the evening sky after the 19 November.

Today is National Author's Day, an observance adopted by the General Federation of Women's Club in 1929.

The annual bald eagle migration starts right about now, below Canyon Ferry Dam, east of Helena, Montana.

The Longhorn World Championship Rodeo starts today in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Midwest polka bands are gathering in the Wisconsin Dells for the weekend Polka Fest.

Today in 1967 ROLLING STONE magazine debuted as the first national newspaper covering rock'n roll in the country.

Today is the birthday of Yiddish writer Sholem Asch (THREE CITIES; THE MOTHER), born in Kutno, Poland, 1880.

It's the birthday today of author Stephen Crane (THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE), born in Newark in 1871. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 29.
