Cartoonist Charles Addams, known for his work in THE NEW YORKER, was born on this day in Westfield, New Jersey, 1912.

Jann Wenner, who founded Rolling Stone magazine in 1967, was born in New York City in 1947.

Poet John Berryman died on this day in 1972 when he jumped from a bridge in Minneapolis into the Mississippi River.
