Birds Like Basketball Players
Today's Reading: "Birds Like Basketball Players" by Patricia Goedicke from INVISIBLE HORSES, published by Milkweed Editions (1996).
It's the birthday of actor Claude William Dukenfield, W.C. Fields, born in Philadelphia, 1879, who wrote his own epitaph: "On the whole I'd rather be in Philadelphia."
It was on this day in 1865 that General Robert E. Lee sent an officer with a white towel and a note into the Union lines to announce his surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant.
It's the birthday of French poet Charles Baudelaire, whose series of 101 lyrics titled LES FLEURS DU MAL is considered one of the greatest collections in French poetry. He was born in Paris in 1821.
Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.®
