It's the birthday of psychoanalyst, Erik Erikson, who reshaped the views on human development with his theory of the eight crucial stages of development. He was born in Frankfurt in 1902.
Scandinavian composer Edvard Grieg was born on this day in Bergen, Norway, in 1843.
In 1752 on this day, Benjamin Franklin and his son demonstrated the relationship between electricity and lightning by flying a kite in a thunder storm. A pointed wire was attached to the end of the kite and an iron key suspended from a string was held in Franklin's hand.
It's the anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215, one of the most important documents in the history of political and human freedom; signed by King John in the meadow called Ronimed.
