It's the birthday of British author Colin Henry Wilson, a self-educated son of a factory worker who wrote his first book, THE OUTSIDER, when he was twenty-four years old. He was born in Leicester, in 1931.

Children's author Charlotte Zolotow, was born on this day in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1915.

British poet and author Laurie Lee was born on this day in Gloucestershire, England, in 1914.

Actor Peter Lorre, who first appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, was born on this day in Rosenberg, Hungary, in 1904.
