Author Stephen King (CARRIE; THE SHINING; PET SEMETARY) was born in Portland, Maine, in 1947.

Animator and director Chuck Jones, who invented or helped develop cartoon characters such as the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky, was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1912.

Allen Lane, the founder of Penguin Books in 1935, was born in Bristol, England, in 1902.
