George Eastman announced the invention of the color photographic process in 1914.

English epidemiologist Richard Doll, who established a link between tobacco smoke and lung cancer and also exposure to high energy radiation and cancer, was born in Hampton in 1912.

Painter Francis Bacon was born in Dublin on this day in1909.

Novelist Evelyn Waugh, author of BRIDESHEAD REVISITED, was born in London in 1903.

Composer and longtime director of the Eastman School of Music, Howard Hansen, was born in Wahoo, Nebraska, in 1896.
