Physicist Eugene Paul Wigner was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1902. In 1939 he determined that the Nazis were close to making nuclear weapons and helped persuade Albert Einstein to write his famous letter to President Roosevelt, outlining the threat.
It was in 1800 that the U.S. congress convened for its first session in the new capital of Washington, D.C.
