It's the birthday of South African writer Alan S. Paton (CRY, THE BELOVED COUNTRY), born in 1903.

American novelist and short-story writer Alice Hegan Rice (MRS. WIGGS OF THE CABBAGE PATCH) was born on this day in Shelbyville, Kentucky, 1870.
