Song

by W. H. Auden

SUNDAY 10/11

Today's Reading: "Song" by W. H. Auden, from COLLECTED POEMS, published by Carsonet Press.

It's the birthday of choreographer Jerome Robbins, resident choreographer and ballet master of the New York City Ballet from 1969 to 1983 — best remembered for choreographing WEST SIDE STORY.

The first radio quiz show, Information Please!, went on the air on this date.

In 1919, this date saw the first attempt to serve a meal in flight on an airline, on a London to Paris flight.

It's the birthday of ELEANOR ROOSEVELT in New York City in 1884. Both of her parents died by the time she was 10, and she was sent to live with stern relatives. She married her distant cousin, Franklin, in March of 1905. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

FRANCOIS MAURIAC, the French writer, was born in Bordeaux in 1885.

HENRY HEINZ was born in Pittsburgh in 1844.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.®
