The Nightly News
Poem: Daniel Anderson, "The Nightly News," from January Rain (Story Line Press, 1997).
Today is VALENTINE'S DAY today, the feast day of St. Valentine, of which there were several, but traditionally the day that birds choose their mates.
It was on this day in 1945 that the SIEGE OF BUDAPEST ended when the Soviets liberated the city from the Germans, one of the last battles of World War II.
It's the birthday in 1894 of the comedian JACK BENNY, born Benjamin Kubelsky in Chicago.
It's the birthday in 1859 of GEORGE WASHINGTON GALE FERRIS, born in Pittsburgh, inventor of the Ferris Wheel for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.®
