Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, who commanded the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II, was born on this day in Fredericksburg, Texas, 1885.

It's the birthday of one of baseball's greatest shortstops, Honus Wagner, "The Flying Dutchman," born in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, 1874.

It was on this day in 1868 that the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Andrew Johnson, who, after Lincoln's assassination, angered some members when he honored Lincoln's wish to welcome back the southern states into the Union.
