Anton's One-Word Love Letter from the Old Country; Letter from Bethesda Home

by Margaret Chilton

Broadcast Date: FRIDAY: September 24, 1999

Poems: "Anton's One-Word Love Letter from the Old Country" and "Letter from Bethesda Home" by Margaret Chilton from Virgin of the Candy Scoop, Poetry Harbor, Duluth, MN.

There's a full moon tomorrow night, so today is the beginning of the MOON FESTIVAL in China, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong: a festival to honor one's ancestors.

SUKKOT, the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, begins at sundown tonight.

It's the birthday of F. SCOTT FITZGERALD, born in 1896, St. Paul, Minnesota, named for his distant cousin, Francis Scott Key. This Side of Paradise made him a star overnight, and Fitzgerald (only 24) took his bride Zelda to Jazz-Age New York where they were the toast of the town.

It's the birthday of HORACE WALPOLE, born of a royal family in 1717, London, and the youngest son of the prime minister. He didn't care much for politics, and instead became a writer. Walpole's 3,000 Letters give us a kind of time-capsule view of 18th century England.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.®
